Aircel on Tuesday announced the launch of its 3G services in Chennai. The company had won 13 3G licenses and 8 Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the spectrum auction.

Aircel has launched 3G services in 140 cities across 13 circles in January-February 2011. The company won 3G licences for Delhi (Metro), Mumbai (Metro), Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh , Maharashtra & Goa, Rajasthan , Punjab, UP (West) and UP (East) in an auction earlier this year. Aircel 3G will be launched in Chennai in a few weeks.

On pricing, Aircel officials said that 3G services would be more expensive compared to 2G tariffs and would be priced so as to commensurate the investments it was making. Aircel is offering many services like PocketInternet3G, PocketTV and Pocket Videos as part of its 3G offering.
